Capstone Rebrands as Capstone Energy+ to Reflect Broader Distributed Energy Role

The transformation demonstrates Capstone’s expansion into markets where power resiliency, thermal efficiency, and grid constraints are becoming increasingly important considerations. Formerly known as Capstone Green Energy, the company announced its corporate name change to Capstone Energy+ and continues to provide behind-the-meter (BTM) microturbine energy solutions for commercial, industrial, and data center applications. The rebrand represents the company’s shift from a microturbine manufacturer to a broader distributed energy platform delivering onsite, on-demand, and always-on solutions for high-performance operating environments. “This is more than a name change, it’s a transformation of our business and the markets we are serving,” said Capstone President and Chief Executive Officer, Vince Canino. “In the last three years, we have reshaped our company operationally and financially, creating a stronger foundation from which to pursue the opportunities emerging in BTM energy. We are now ready to move into this next chapter with a forged mindset, steeped in focus, discipline, urgency, and consistency. Capstone Energy+ steps forward in today’s new energy currency—time to energy that requires resiliency, affordability, and sustainability.” The transformation follows seven consecutive quarters of profitability and demonstrates Capstone’s expansion into markets where power resiliency, thermal efficiency, and grid constraints are increasingly vital operational considerations. Capstone Energy+ builds on the company’s established microturbine technology while helping customers address resiliency, affordability, and sustainability for modern energy infrastructure challenges. Capstone Energy+ supports a range of applications, including data centers, hospital and healthcare facilities, oil and gas operations, hotels and resorts, manufacturing sites, commercial buildings, educational campuses, and large-scale venues. It allows customers to generate energy on-site and on demand, whether the need is continuous baseload power, backup and resiliency, peak shaving, or rapid deployment. There’s an increasing demand for BTM solutions in the data center market, where operators require resilient, continuous, low-emission power in constrained environments while generating thermal energy. This industry shift positions Capstone Energy+ to serve this market with microturbine combined heat-and-power technology. Capstone solutions deliver both electrical and thermal energy with reliability and a smaller physical footprint. In early April 2026, Capstone Energy+ and its authorized distributor, Horizon Power Systems, obtained an order for two Capstone C800 Signature Series microturbines for a premier golf and hospitality resort in Utah—the system is expected to be commissioned in May 2026. The overall project will operate with pipeline-fed natural gas and feature microturbines integrated into a waste heat recovery system to deliver high-grade hot water throughout the facility. This circular-economy design enables an efficient combined heat-and-power solution that generates reliable on-site electricity while recycling thermal energy to support the resort’s significant heating demands, including its large wave pool and additional hot-water amenities. Capstone’s microturbines provide an alternative to traditional utility power and reciprocating engines by offering ultra-low emissions, minimal acoustic impact, and efficient on-site generation where energy is consumed. Its single-moving-part design runs on an air cushion, eliminating friction, oil, and lubricants while operating quietly, cleanly, and significantly reducing maintenance requirements compared to traditional reciprocating engines. The simple architecture enables longer service intervals and consistent, high-availability operation, making Capstone’s technology suitable for mission-critical applications where reliability, uptime, and environmental performance matter. Re-Engineering Power: The Second-Hand Gas Turbine Market

Second-hand gas turbines provide an entry point for power generation or mechanical drive projects with limited budgets. This article reviews critical components including the compressor, combustors, turbine section, and rotor. Proper selection and hot-section refurbishment can yield reliable operation at half the cost of new equipment.

Optimizing Efficiency with Second-Hand Sealing Rings

Sealing rings (labyrinth, carbon, or brush types) control leakage along turbine rotors and diaphragms. While often replaced new, second-hand sealing rings can be reused if properly inspected. This article explains damage patterns, inspection criteria, and cost-saving opportunities for used seals.

Core Component Assessment: The Second-Hand Turbine Rotor

The rotor is the most valuable and critical part of any second-hand steam or gas turbine. This article describes essential inspection steps, including non-destructive testing of journals, blade attachments, and bore areas. A sound rotor can enable a complete turbine refurbishment at low cost.

Inspection and Refurbishment of Second-Hand Turbine Diaphragms

The diaphragm is a key stationary component in steam turbines, directing steam flow between stages. This article covers the evaluation process for second-hand diaphragms, including concentricity checks, seal strip wear, and repair options. A well-maintained diaphragm ensures efficiency and reliability.

Evaluation and Reuse of Turbine Blades from Second-Hand Units

Turbine blades are among the most stressed components in both steam and gas turbines. This article discusses how to assess second-hand blades for potential reuse, covering common damage mechanisms, inspection methods, and refurbishment limits. Proper selection of used blades can reduce costs without compromising safety.
